IMPORTANT CHANGES TO VISA ON ARRIVAL PROCESS AT KILIMANJARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

The Tanzanian government have announced with immediate effect, changes to the visa on arrival process at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). See full notification attached below.
While visas on arrival are still available, there is a new process which will involve:
- Queuing for a Government Control Number – this is required for any government payment
- Queuing to pay for the visa using the Government Control Number at the bank at the airport
- Queuing for Immigration to check ad issue the visa
These new changes can lead to the visa on arrival process taking in excess of two hours to complete.
Visa fees remain the same and certain visa restrictions and special permissions still apply. You can see the full list of visa guidelines here.
PLEASE NOTE:
To avoid long wait times, we strongly recommend applying and obtaining the necessary visa prior to travel. This can be done at the nearest embassy or online via the e-visa portal. The online process usually takes between 2-3 weeks.
